Compatibility

Check the App Store listing for supported macOS versions and Mac models when the app becomes available.

Starting and saving a note

Choose a notes folder on first launch. The suggested location is a folder named メモツール inside your Mac user’s Documents folder. Use New Folder in the picker if needed, or choose another folder. You can change the location later in Settings using the gear button or ⌘,. Changing it does not automatically move existing notes.

Press ⌘T for a new note and ⌘S to save. For a new note, keep the date-and-number name or enter your own. Save As (⇧⌘S) lets you choose another name or location. The supported format is UTF-8 plain text.

Opening saved notes

Use the top-left notes-list button or ⌃⌘S to show the sidebar. It starts hidden on every launch. The list shows text files directly inside your notes folder, ordered by modification date. Select a note to open it in a tab.

The folder button beside the sidebar button opens a file picker at your notes folder, where you can select multiple notes. Use ⌘O for files elsewhere. Choosing a file that is already open switches to its existing tab. To reveal the notes folder in Finder, use the folder-name button at the bottom of the sidebar.

Search, appearance and tabs

The sidebar searches file names and opening previews of up to 160 characters. It does not search the full contents of every note. Use ⌘F to search the complete active note. Selecting text highlights exact matches within that note.

Settings offers System, Light and Dark appearances, plus optional ruled lines. Change text size with ⌘+ / ⌘-. The interface follows macOS per-app language settings; restart the app after changing its language. Note contents and file names are not translated.

“Unsaved · Recovery ready” and recovery

This status means your edits have been written to a temporary file. It is separate from saving the note; press ⌘S to save. Edits to an existing note are also kept in a separate temporary file until you save the original.

If a recovery dialog appears after an abnormal exit, you can choose to restore the notes. Recovery cannot guarantee protection against recent edits not yet written, power loss or storage failure. Keep independent backups of important notes, for example with Time Machine.

Saving, discarding and cancelling when closing

When closing a note with unsaved changes, check the file name, folder and opening text before choosing whether to save. Completing a close with Don’t Save deletes a new temporary note or the recovery copy of edits. An existing note retains its last saved contents.

If you cancel while closing several unsaved tabs, all changes that have not yet been saved remain, including notes marked Don’t Save earlier in that closing sequence. Saves already completed are not undone.

Trouble saving, opening or recovering notes

If permission is required, select the folder again as prompted. Choose Original Folder in the recovery dialog renews access to earlier recovery files without changing the folder used for new notes. Later keeps the recovery records. Check external-drive connections and whether files have moved or been deleted. Granting permission cannot bring back a physically deleted file.

If an external-change warning appears, use Save As to preserve your edits in a separate file, then compare with the original. Edits recovered after an abnormal exit also require a separate file when the app lacks the original comparison data. If a file cannot be opened as UTF-8, convert a copy to UTF-8 in another app first.

Transmission and deletion

MameNotes itself does not upload notes or use advertising, analytics or account registration. Files in iCloud Drive or another synced folder may still sync through macOS or that service according to its settings. Deleting the app does not automatically delete notes in your chosen folder.

Contact and problem reports

Contact yunaledge@gmail.com for support. When reporting a problem, include the app version and build, macOS version, Mac type, steps to reproduce the problem and the error message. Do not send note contents or confidential information unless necessary. Check screenshots for private file names or text before attaching them.

Information you send by email is used to answer your request and investigate the reported issue. The app does not automatically attach or send your notes or logs.
